The Kanohi Kaukau is the Mask of Water Breathing.
The Kanohi Kaukau is used to breathe underwater and in the water permutation of liquid protodermis. While active, the user cannot breathe air.
A Kaukau Nuva is created when a destined Kaukau is dipped in Energized Protodermis. In addition to its standard abilities, it protects the wearer from intense physical pressures and extreme cold, and its power can be shared with individuals near the user; however, it can only be used by Nuva beings.
In the Doronai Nui
Great
As a 1AP action, the wearer gains the ability to breathe water or liquid protodermis for the next hour. They lose the ability to breathe air for the duration of the effect. The wearer may choose to end the effect early as a 0AP action.
Noble
As a 1AP action, the wearer gains the ability to breathe water or liquid protodermis for the next 10 minutes. They lose the ability to breathe air for the duration of the effect. The wearer may choose to end the effect early as a 0AP action.
Great Nuva
As a 1AP action, the wearer gains the ability to breathe water or liquid protodermis indefinitely, until the wearer dismisses the effect. They lose the ability to breathe air for the duration of the effect. Additionally, for the duration of the effect, they become immune to the effects of pressure and gain immunity to Cold damage. The wearer may choose to end the effect as a 0AP action.
Noble Nuva
As a 1AP action, the wearer gains the ability to breathe water or liquid protodermis for the next 30 minutes. They lose the ability to breathe air for the duration of the effect. Additionally, for the duration of the effect, they become immune to the effects of pressure, and gain immunity to Cold damage. The wearer may choose to end the effect early as a 0AP action.
