The Kanohi Kraahkan is the Mask of Shadows. A Kraahkan Nuva is created when a destined Kraahkan is exposed to Energized Protodermis.

The Kanohi Kraahkan grants its user access to the power of elemental Shadow. The mask relies on its own elemental energy pool when using the mask's elemental abilities. There are limits to said abilities, and as such Kraahkan-bearers do not have access to the full range of powers available to beings naturally-attuned to the element of Shadow.

The Great Kanohi Kraahkan grants the user access to the elemental power of Shadow at Toa-level while worn. The mask does not boost any pre-existing powers or recharge the user's own elemental energy pool. It relies on its own separate and finite elemental energy pool, and the user can (with skill) use the mask simultaneously as an innate power. The mask does not grant the user any innate elemental abilities such as resistances, and does not have the ability to absorb its element. It also does not grant species-specific elemental abilites such as nova blasts.

The Noble Kanohi Kraahkan grants the user access to the elemental power of Shadow at Turaga-level while worn. Usage

Only one Kraahkan has existed in the history of the Matoran universe - that originally by Makuta Teridax (and later Icarax, before being destroyed). Like all the masks worn by the members of the Brotherhood of Makuta, it had been forged by Artakha alongside their armor during the inception of the Makuta species. However, according to legend, the Kraahkan was created by mask makers enslaved by the Brotherhood. The mask possessed a number of additional traits not possessed by standard Kraahkan:

  • Like all of the primary masks worn by the Makuta, it was forged from protosteel and specially designed with the ability to be able to shapeshift alongside their wearer.
  • It possessed the power to induce anger and fear in targets.
  • It allowed its wearer to sense the moral darkness in others.
  • While not worn, it would blast any non-Makuta who touched it with bolts of shadow.

The mask was briefly fused with Toa Takanuva's Avohkii as the mask worn by Takutanuva. In this form, it possessed the powers of both masks.

A version of this mask from the Melding alternate universe has since been brought to the main universe, alongside its bearer - that universe's Teridax.

Toa would consider this mask power immoral due to its association with Teridax and the wider Brotherhood of Makuta.[1]

Models

An official Kraahkan model was made by LEGO: the standard Great.
