The Kanohi Garai is the Mask of Gravity. A Garai Nuva is created when a destined Garai is exposed to Energized Protodermis.

The Kanohi Garai grants its user access to the power of Elemental Gravity. The mask relies on its own elemental energy pool when using the mask's elemental abilities. There are limits to said abilities, and as such Garai-bearers do not have access to the full range of powers available to beings naturally-attuned to the element of Gravity.

The Great Kanohi Garai grants the user access to the elemental power of Gravity at Toa-level while worn. The mask does not boost any pre-existing powers or recharge the user's own elemental energy pool. It relies on its own separate and finite elemental energy pool, and the user can (with skill) use the mask simultaneously as an innate power. The mask does not grant the user any innate elemental abilities such as resistances, and does not have the ability to absorb its element. It also does not grant species-specific elemental abilites such as nova blasts.
