History
At some point not long after the initial defeat of the Barraki, one local struck Mahkari's central shelf in a fit of rage, hitting a natural weak spot and causing a fissure that subsequently separated the entire island. Ever since, one half of Mahkari, no longer securely anchored to the sea floor, has been slowly drifting away from the other half, creating two smaller islands now known as North Mahkari and South Mahkari.
Landscape
On first glance, Mahkari doesn’t so much appear as an island rather than simply a forest growing right out of the sea. The vast majority of the island is periodically flooded, and thus mangroves dominate the flora. Only in the island’s center does a rocky shelf rise noticeably above the waves, this place being where the Ekedax have built their main settlement.
