Pauroga is an island in the Matoran Universe.

History

Originally uninhabited, Pauroga was claimed early on by a group of Paxorak migrants who established a colony there. Valuing their independence, they resisted their annexation into the kingdom of Hakori fiercely. Only when Carapar outsmarted them with a "gift" of poisoned food was he able to take the island, making the original settlers into his own subjects. During the Prosecution, the period of time where the universe was freed from the League of Six Kingdoms and its remains, the locals were either killed or deported back to Mohra. The local Makuta soon afterwards made Pauroga subject to his plans for a perfect Rahi habitat, first purging any Rahi and plant life on the island, then starting completely anew. After an accident, the island became a swamp with mutated creatures, and was then used as the site of a secret prison for the Makuta.

Landscape

Originally, Pauroga was covered by bushland. After repopulation, it supported a great diversity of moderate biomes, with very tame Rahi and a surprising absence of predators of any kind – as per the Makuta's design. Later, after an accident including a burst Energized Protodermis vessel, the island changed again, transforming into a toxic swamp with nightmarish creatures that was abandoned by Makuta Irutra. More recently, it has been used as a site for a secret prison camp run by the Brotherhood of Makuta.
