The Kolhaki are said to be as icy and ruthless as the island itself; to this day, the Brotherhood has its hands full maintaining the tenuous peace of Konora.  It is rumored that the Makuta assigned to the island were corrupted or cursed in dealing with the Kolhaki - combined with the island's unforgiving climate and reputation for societal instability, this is enough to keep most would-be visitors away.

History

Konora's society was once held together by a strictly-defined set of rules and legal codes, but after an ambitious mercenary began breaking laws for hire, the island was gradually claimed by civil war. Weakened by the conflict, it was a simple matter for Barraki Ehlek’s forces to subject the Kolhaki to his rule. Under Ehlek’s watchful eye, peace returned to Konora for a while, and its city of Kypraida even became the land capital of Ninaikar.

However, when the League of Six Kingdoms crumbled, war returned to Konora as old ambitions and rivalries reignited; only the intervention of the Makuta a few centuries later reasserted law and order. Since then, the Brotherhood always had its hands full trying to keep the peace on Konora – and it’s even rumored that the Makuta who were assigned there were somehow corrupted or cursed by dealing with the Kolhaki, contributing to a reputation that led to the island largely being left alone or avoided by outsiders.

Landscape

The sea surrounding Konora is permanently frozen for several kio out from the mainland, and many smaller settlements have been constructed on the ice. The frozen waters have earned the island its name, which translates to “the cold wild sea”. While the Kolhaki keep a few channels open for ordinary ship travel, the local vehicles of choice are ice boats – sail-powered sleds that allow for comfortable crossing of the frozen ocean. This mode of transportation extends inland as well, where the oftentimes-frozen rivers serve as a network for travel between craggy mountain spires, snow-covered forests and great expanses of seemingly-lifeless tundra.

Society

Konora is a cold and harsh place, and the Kolhaki an equally cold people.
