Overview

History

Once, Tenai was an island which seemed impossibly peaceful; travelers noted with astonishment the sheer number of species who lived alongside one another in harmony. However, under the rule of Barraki Ehlek, it was discovered that this remarkable display of unity was actually an illusion: the island was in fact inhabited solely by the shapeshifting Khafemu species, who assume the forms of other Oropi. Seeing the immense danger posed by an island full of perfect spies, Ehlek ordered his army to cull Tenai’s population so that they could not be used against him. Accounts of how successful he was in this endeavor vary; some say the elimination of the Khafemu was complete, while others say that a great number of the shapeshifters were able to slip away, scattering to the far corners of the universe.

Society

Today, the island is home to colonies of various species, primarily Matoran and Gawalai, who coexist in a roughly amphibious lifestyle along the shorelines. Because of Tenai’s remarkable geographic position linking north, south, east, and west, it sees a vastly larger amount of trade than one would typically expect for an island of its size.
