The Toa Hagah e-Teridax (lit. “Toa Hagah of Teridax”) were a Toa team assigned to Makuta Teridax, and the most well-renowned of the Toa Hagah. After betraying the Brotherhood of Makuta, the Toa were mutated into twisted creatures called Rahaga by Roodaka. They have since been restored to their Toa forms and are now the last remaining Toa Hagah. Since the fall of the other Toa Hagah, the term has become synonymous with this team.
History
Around 96,000 aA, Makuta Teridax - the leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta, and the Makuta of Metru Nui - recruited his own personal Toa Hagah team. The Toa were selected from existing teams, each chosen for the renown they already possessed. During their employment, they lived on Destral and became familiar with the island's fortress. Despite Teridax being assigned to Metru Nui, his Toa Hagah never visited the great city. Instead of traveling with the Makuta, they were frequently sent on a variety of other missions, such as disabling the out-of-control machines called Fohrok, stopping a Frostelus attack, or handling a local Hoto bug infestation. Over time, the team became highly renowned, even surpassing the Toa Mangai in fame.
This changed after 98,700 aA. After Kualus discovered the Makuta were the true perpetrators behind the Visorak hordes which had scourged lands for many years prior, the Toa team investigated further and learned of many more of the crimes committed by their employers. The Brotherhood had launched an attack on the mythical island of Artakha, in which they had acquired the Kanohi Avohkii, the Mask of Light; they had enslaved Matoran, whom the Brotherhood had sworn to protect; they had corrupted peaceful Exo-Toa suits into sentries for their fortresses; and they had allied with the criminal organization known as the Dark Hunters. Furthermore, the Brotherhood had assembled an army in preparation to invade other islands.
Following these revelations, Teridax’s Hagah rebelled and hastily raided the island of Destral, breaking into the Brotherhood’s vaults and claiming the Kanohi Avohkii and Makoki stones. During this assault, they fought Seeker, as well as the Dark Hunter pair Nidhiki and Krekka. However, during their escape, four of the Toa - Gaaki, Iruini, Kualus, and Pouks - were ambushed and taken captive one by one by Roodaka and Sidorak, lieutenants of the Brotherhood and commanders of the Visorak hordes. Separated from the others, Norik and Iruini fought and defeated Teridax, severely weakening him, and escaped the island.
The captured Toa Hagah were moved to a separate location, and after half a day’s search, Norik and Iruini managed to locate and free their fellow teammates, now mutated by Roodaka into Rahaga, but were themselves mutated in the process. Believing them no longer a threat, the Visorak allowed the Rahaga to escape. Following their victory, the Visorak were united into one horde under Sidorak and Roodaka, who were promoted to king and viceroy respectively. As a result of the Toa's actions, other Toa Hagah teams swiftly met their end, few being corrupted, while most were killed or worse.
After regrouping, the Rahaga hid the Kanohi Avohkii and Makoki stones in Metru Nui. As a result of their new forms, the Rahaga developed a strong sympathy for Rahi - knowing that the creatures were in just as much danger from the Visorak as the Matoran were - and set out to aid the victims of the horde, following the stealers of life from the shadows. Eventually, they learned of a legendary Rahi by the name of Keetongu, who was said to be able to counteract the effects of Visorak venom. Though the majority of the team doubted Keetongu's existence, at Norik's suggestion they began their search for Keetongu, which would lead them back to Metru Nui. There they took up hiding in the Great Archives, also anticipating that the Visorak would eventually invade the city.
Their prediction would come true fifty years later, in 99,000 aA following the Great Cataclysm. During this time, they aided the Toa Hordika - the Toa Metru, now transformed by Visorak venom - and located Keetongu. Following the defeat of Sidorak and Roodaka, the Rahaga remained in Metru Nui together with Turaga Dume and Keetongu, gradually restoring the city. Meanwhile, the Kanohi Avohkii and Makoki stones were left in the care of the Toa Metru, who hid them on the island above.
A thousand years later, they would be returned to their Toa forms by Roodaka after she was captured by the Toa Nuva. The team - taking up the name of Toa Hagah once more, now as guardians of the Matoran - then participated in the conflicts against the Brotherhood of Makuta, seeking to bring their former employer to justice. To this end, they even formed a pact with Makuta Miserix - the Brotherhood’s original leader - against their common enemy. Most recently, on the reformed Spherus Magna, the Toa Hagah were assigned a mission to rescue to the Toa Mahri. Having completed their destiny, should the Toa Hagah chose to sacrifice their Toa Power, they would become Turaga.
Equipment & Abilities
Toa Hagah
As Toa Hagah, the team possessed the standard powers of Toa. Each member of the team was equipped a spear which contained a special ability. They also carried Rhotuka Launching Shields, which were able to generate two Rhotuka at the same time, and store a charged-up Rhotuka Spinner for quick deployment. Their armor and masks were forged from precious metals. Though each of the Kanohi were shaped in honor of past heroes, the masks possessed the same mask powers that the Toa had worn prior to joining the team. Initially unbeknownsts to the Toa, these masks had been forged by Matoran enslaved by the Brotherhood of Makuta. All of this equipment was presented to them by their former teammates upon their induction into the team.
Rahaga
When mutated by Roodaka, the Toa Hagah were turned into mockeries of Turaga, shrunken and twisted creatures with the faces of Rahkshi that the Vortixx dubbed “Rahaga” - a play on the words “Rahkshi” and “Hagah”. They were part-Rahi, and as a result, possessed enhanced senses and agility. Their spears were turned into smaller staffs with different abilities, and their Rhotuka Launchers were fused into their anatomy. The powers of their Rhotuka Spinners were also altered, and they lost their Kanohi and elemental powers. In their new forms, Roodaka believed the Rahaga were no longer a threat, assuming that they would be shunned by the Matoran, never to be regarded as heroes again.
