The Toa Hagah were elite Toa teams recruited by the Brotherhood of Makuta to serve as their personal bodyguards.[1] The term has in more recent years become synonymous with the Toa Hagah of Teridax.
History
Over the thousands of years that followed the Convocation where Makuta Teridax usurped leadership of the Brotherhood of Makuta, many different Makuta assembled personal teams of elite Toa under the guise of serving as bodyguards. While for some Toa this purpose held true - protecting the Makuta from threats such as Rahi and natural disasters - others used their teams as damage control crews, and still more sought simply to have oversight over Toa they regarded as a potential threat to the Brotherhood. Despite their proximity to the Makuta, the majority of these Toa were completely unaware of their true nature. The members of the Toa Hagah were notable Toa recruited from existing teams.
In 98,700 aA, the Teridax's own team betrayed the Brotherhood of Makuta. As a result of their actions, the Brotherhood disposed of most of their Toa Hagah, many meeting a grim fate as the true faces of the Makuta were unveiled to them. Most were killed, some were used as lab material, while even fewer still sided with the corrupt cause of the Makuta.
Equipment & Abilities
Each Toa Hagah was bestowed with armor, tools, and a mask forged from precious metal to symbolize their status as elite. Their masks were forged in the shapes of those worn by past heroes, though the Toa Hagah retained their former mask power.[1] Customarily, the masks and armor were given to them by their former team.
