Subterranean Worms are large, tentacled Rahi.
History
The Subterranean Worm species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[1]
After the Great Cataclysm, a population of Subterranean Worms migrated through the Great Barrier to the newly-created island of Mata Nui. Here, they dwelt deep in Onu-Wahi for 1,000 years, where they were occasionally sighted by Onu-Matoran Miners.[2]
When Toa Nuva Onua and Turaga Whenua were searching for Kanohi Nuva underground, they encountered a Subterranean Worm.[2] Onua subdued it by using his Quake Breakers to create a loud noise, which pained the Subterranean Worm due to its sensitive hearing. The Subterranean Worm then retreated.[3]
When the Toa Nuva intentionally unleashed the Bohrok, the Subterranean Worms migrated back to Metru Nui.[4]
After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Subterranean Worms left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[5]
Abilities and Traits
Subterranean Worms are huge (up to twelve feet long), bleached white in color, and eyeless. They have six long, clawed spines that can be used as whips, capable of rending six inches of metal in one strike.[6][7] Instead of seeing, they navigate by sound, which Onua used to his advantage. They are also rumored to feed on Protodermis.[2]
