The Staff of Artakha is a mysterious staff created by Artakha long ago.
History
The staff was created by Artakha[1] after the Great Cataclysm[2] and placed in the Archives of Metru Nui, where the Toa Mata were intended to retrieve it, as per the Scroll of Preparations. However, the Dark Hunters stole the staff[3] and gave it to the Shadowed One, their leader. The Shadowed One later sold the staff to Xia in exchange for weapons.[4]
1,000 years after the Great Cataclysm, Makuta Teridax bid Makuta Icarax find the Staff of Artakha. He found the staff on Xia and departed after defeating Onua Nuva, who challenged him for it.[5] The six Toa Nuva fought Icarax for the staff in Karzahni, but Icarax escaped with the staff.[6]
Icarax then passed the staff over to Teridax in Mahri Nui, who attempted to use it to recreate what he believed to be the Nui Stone.[7] His mention of the staff also contributed to Karzahni's attack on him.[8] Teridax also hoped to study the power of the staff to see if it could be turned towards destruction as well as restoration.[9] Brutaka confronted Teridax, seized the staff, and passed it to Botar to prevent Teridax from reconstructing the Nui Stone. Botar then teleported away with the staff.[7]
After this, Botar transported the Toa Nuva to Daxia, where they witnessed Trinuma place the Staff of Artakha in a power cradle that amplified the staff's power, sending energy flooding throughout the entire Matoran Universe and undoing all the damage of the Great Cataclysm, except that which was done to Karda Nui.[10] When Daxia was destroyed, the Order of Mata Nui saved the staff.[11]
Functionality
The Staff of Artakha is capable of recreating any broken object, so long as a fragment of the object remains.[7] It can also only work on items that are similar in construction or composition to that of the Matoran Universe.[12]
The staff's power range is far greater than that of a Great Kiril. Its only limitation is its inability to undo the damage in Karda Nui from outside of it due to the strength of Karda Nui's shielded walls.[10] When it was used by the Order of Mata Nui, the staff only repaired damage done directly by the Great Cataclysm; any damage done to the universe afterwards had to be fixed in other ways.[13]
