Sea Spiders are amphibious predatory Rahi.

History

The Sea Spider species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[1]

These Spiders were the only known natural predator of the Visorak, and for this reason, a large number of the Sea Spiders would often migrate to follow the Visorak as they moved from island to island. During the Visorak occupation of Metru Nui, Rahaga Gaaki released any Spiders she caught so that they would hunt the Visorak.[2]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Rahi left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[3]

Abilities and Traits

Despite their name, Sea Spiders are actually amphibious Rahi. While not large enough to pose a threat to a potential prey, the front legs of a Sea Spider are able to inject venom that shrinks a foe down to a more manageable size. Sea Spider spinners can then throw prey into temporary stasis until such time as when the hunter is ready to feed.[4]

Sea Spiders are characteristically solitary hunters and are actually hostile to each members of the species. Over the course of history, much of the Spiders' prey has been spared because two specimens were hunting at the same time. Sea Spiders are almost fearless and rarely back away from a confrontation.[2]

Trivia

  • The only time Gaaki has seen a Sea Spider show fear was when one encountered a Krana in an Archives display case.[2]
