The Builder of the Toa Canisters is an insane Av-Matoran.
Biography
The Builder was created by the Great Beings to assist in the construction of the Great Spirit Mata Nui. Before the awakening of Mata Nui, he and the other Av-Matoran left their homeland under the Southern Continent to colonize Karda Nui, where the Builder built Toa Canisters. During the colonization, the Avohkah menaced the Matoran and slowed construction greatly, but the Toa Mata were able to destroy the Avohkah.[1]
The Builder was instructed to inform Tren Krom that the Energy Storms would soon begin and that Mata Nui was ready to assume his destined role as protector and caretaker of the Matoran Universe. As a result of his encounter with Tren Krom, the Matoran was driven insane.[2]
Prior to the construction of a Light-blocking barrier, the Builder was sent to Karzahni to be repaired. After his mask was taken by the tyrant Karzahni, his existence and name were eventually forgotten by all, including himself.
When the Matoran Jaller, Hahli, Hewkii, Nuparu, Matoro, and Kongu ventured into Karzahni, they encountered the Builder, who had become as all Karzahni Matoran eventually were: a beaten, filthy, battered husk of his former self. The Matoran team spoke with the Builder, who informed them that six Toa Canisters were stored in Karzahni, but inadvertently also made the ruler of the realm aware of the Matoran's presence. The Builder, along with the other Matoran, were cast into a vision by Karzahni detailing the death of Mata Nui. The Matoran were eventually freed from the vision and asked the Builder to join them, although he refused to go with them. Karzahni was furious at the Builder for helping them escape,[3] but eventually forgot about him, allowing the Builder to live in relative peace again.
Before Gali Nuva destroyed Karzahni, the Builder was sent to Metru Nui along with the rest of the realm's populace.[4] There, he was repaired properly and the damage he sustained was reversed.[5]
When Makuta Teridax was killed after taking over the Matoran Universe, the Builder evacuated to live on the reformed Spherus Magna.[6][7]
Abilities and Traits
As an Av-Matoran, the Builder of the Toa Canisters has the natural reflex ability to change the perceived color of his armor, as well as the power to channel bolts of Light through his hands or tools.
He was rebuilt by Karzahni into a significantly weaker form and retained various injuries, including a badly twisted leg.[3] These injuries were treated and mended when he arrived in Metru Nui.[5]
The Builder was driven insane by his encounter with Tren Krom,[2] and remains so.[3]
