History

Stelt has historically been riddled with conflicts over land, structures, resources, and just about anything else its inhabitants deemed worth fighting over.

Landscape

It's said that all roads lead to Stelt – at least the ones that go downhill. Stelt is a land that reeks of decay, from the crumbling buildings to the dirty streets and foul water. The society is no great improvement, constantly embroiled in clan feuds and always teetering at the brink of outright civil war. Even so, those with enough cunning can strike it rich on Stelt, where a merchant can’t be considered respectable if they aren't involved one way or another in stolen goods, piracy, or extortion.

The only thing that unifies the various inhabitants of Stelt is their love for gladiatorial combat, which takes place in the many arenas that dot the island. These arenas are unanimously considered neutral ground, and are therefore the only nonessential structures that last any amount of time on the island.

By contrast, what Steltian society lacks on land, it makes up for on sea: its ships are among the fastest and deadliest in the universe, sought out by any faction large enough to field a navy.

Society

Steltian society is caste-based, with Dahkini Judges at the top of every clan. Matoran of various tribes occupy positions of middle management and skilled labor, and Kumopak bruisers are relegated to low-skill jobs of construction (or deconstruction). The massive Lhomanu species are primarily used for sport in the arenas, although they are sometimes employed for jobs that require truly phenomenal strength.

Dahkini Judges often oversee prestigious trading operations throughout the Great Dome, a job which frequently places them in economic ties with nearby Xia.
