This template is used to cite quotes from Greg Farshtey.

There are two main ways to use this template.

===Preferred method===

This method is preferred because it produces a direct link to the Greg quote.

The first parameter is an abbreviation of the document you are citing. The abbreviations are:

*OGD: Official Greg Discussion
*OGDi: Official Greg Dialogue
*OGQ: Official Greg Quotes
*CwGF: Chat with Greg Farshtey
*FF: Farshtey Feed

The other parameters vary based on which document you're citing.

====Citing OGD, OGDi, OGQ, or CwGF====

Find the Greg quote in [https://greg.thegreatarchives.com/ The Great Archives]. Once you find the post you want to cite, find the link on the top right of the post that begins with a <code>#</code>. The link's address should be something like this:

Note the page number (in this example, 156) and post number (in this example, 6214). Now add your citation to the end of some text like this:

The next parameters are the page and post numbers. To cite post 6214 on page 156 of the Official Greg Discussion, you write:

=====Recommended: highlighting a specific line or lines=====
Posts in The Great Archives are often long and contain many unrelated questions. With the optional <code>lines</code> parameter, you can highlight lines within a post to make your citations clearer.

Visit a post in the The Great Archives and follow the instructions in [https://thegreatarchives.com/blog/2019/12/27/line-selection-feature-added-to-ogd-archive this blog post] to highlight lines within the post. At this point, your browser should be at an address like this:

(That link is a permalink to lines 10 through 11 of OGD page 156, post 6214.) Fill the <code>lines</code> parameter with everything that comes after "line" in the address. For example, to cite the above address, you write

====Citing FF====
The Farshtey Feed archive follows a different format from other Greg topics. Instead of specifying a page and post, fill the <code>date</code> with the post's date in YYYY-MM-DD format and an item number.

Find the Greg quote in [https://greg.thegreatarchives.com/ The Great Archives]. Once you find the post you want to cite, click on a specific bullet point that you want to cite (not the text, the actual circle of the bullet point). The bullet should now be highlighted, and your browser should be at an address like this:

Fill the <code>date</code> parameter with the post's date in YYYY-MM-DD format (in this case 2010-03-28), and fill the <code>item</code> parameter with the item number (in this case, 43). For example, to cite the above link, you write:

===Old method: citing timestamp===

The first way to cite a Greg quote is to cite the topic the quote came from and the quote's timestamp. This method is being phased out in favor of method 2, which you can read about in the next section.

Find the Greg quote in one of the Greg Answers zip files, which you can download from [http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/11221-official-greg-compendium/ BZPower]. Copy the relevant post's timestamp from the file. To find the timestamp, look for the text <code>NEW POST</code> that marks the beginning of the post you're looking at. Then there should be another line saying something like <code>[quote name=" username"]</code>. The line just beneath ''that'' should be the timestamp.

Note: If you want to cite a post by its timestamp, you should find the post in the Greg Answers downloads, not in [https://greg.thegreatarchives.com/ The Great Archives]. This is because the downloads sometimes use a different timestamp format than The Great Archives. When BS01 started citing Greg quotes, The Great Archives was not available yet, so we defaulted to the downloads' timestamp format. We want to keep the timestamps on the wiki consistent. That way, readers know that they can take any Greg timestamp on the wiki, search the Greg Answers downloads, and find the original quote.

Now that you have the timestamp, add your citation to the end of some text like this:

The first parameter is an abbreviation of the topic you found the quote in. The abbreviations are:
