The Reformation of Spherus Magna was the culmination of Mata Nui's mission, in which the fragments Bota Magna, Aqua Magna, and Bara Magna reunited to become Spherus Magna.

History
Over 100,000 years ago, the Core War for Energized Protodermis raged across the planet of Spherus Magna. The liquid itself was damaging the stability of the planet, and the Great Beings eventually discovered that the planet would rip apart from the stress. To help the planet recover from the inevitable catastrophe, the Great Beings built Mata Nui and his robot body and tasked him with fixing the planet after observing societies and gathering data on them. One of the beings located within Mata Nui, Makuta Teridax, was destined to help Mata Nui, and take over his robot body while Mata Nui inhabited a planned second robot.JE

Mata Nui left the planet in the midst of the Shattering, and the planet was broken up into three pieces; Bara Magna became the largest chunk, and two smaller planetoids developed from the Bota Magna and Aqua Magna regions.

Around 1,000 years ago, Mata Nui was on his way back to complete his mission, but was betrayed by Teridax and cast into a coma, crash landing on Aqua Magna. He was eventually revived, but Teridax took the opportunity to usurp his position and take over the robot body. Mata Nui was trapped in the Ignika, and cast off into space, crashing onto Bara Magna.

While on the planet, he eventually managed to reactivate an old prototype robot the Great Beings had built. He used the prototype's Gravity powers to start pulling the fragments toward Bara Magna, but did not have enough power to complete the process. Mata Nui was able to reverse the effects of gravity on the planets that made them become spherical, allowing them to fit into place.

Teridax arrived soon after, challenging Mata Nui to a fight. Mata Nui failed to convince Teridax that they were both supposed fix the planet, and began dueling. During the battle, Teridax attempted to crush the planet by summoning a burst of his own gravitational energy, but Mata Nui successfully redirected the attack to the moons, which drew them all the way back to Bara Magna. Mata Nui shoved Teridax into the trajectory of Aqua Magna, and he was killed by the debris floating around it. The planet fragments rejoined with Bara Magna, reforming Spherus Magna. Using the last of the prototype's energies and the Ignika, Mata Nui made the planet bloom with flora and life.
