== History ==
Especially significant Protodermis Canals ran deep throughout the district of [[Ga-Metru]]. Here, the Liquid Protodermis of the [[Silver Sea]] were drawn into the [[Great Temple]], where it was purified by [[Ga-Matoran]] lab workers. After, the Protodermis was redirected into the canals, which dumped it in a subterranean pipe system. The Protodermis that was collected could also be superheated and sent to [[Ta-Metru]] to be molded into [[Kanohi]], [[Kanoka]], and other tools. As a pastime, [[Matoran]] were known to perform [[Disk Surfing]] on the canals. The Ga-Matoran, who had a special fondness for boats, used to sail miniature replicas of the ships during their free time.

In the [[Po-Metru]] district, Protodermis Canals were used when carvings were too large to be supported on loaders. Therefore, the structures were loaded onto flatboats and transported along the canals.

During their quest to recover the [[Great Disks]], [[Toa Metru]] [[Nokama]] and [[Matau]] encountered a Protodermis Canal in Ga-Metru that had been completely drained of Liquid Protodermis. They discovered that someone had manipulated the control wheel to stop the flow. Suddenly, the two Toa Metru were confronted by an oncoming wave of Liquid Protodermis, which engulfed them. Nokama managed to gain control using her [[Hydro Blades]] but Matau was swept away. However, Nokama managed to save him and the Toa continued on their quest.

The Protodermis Canals were damaged in the earthquake that struck Metru Nui during the [[Great Cataclysm]], but they were repaired by the usage of the [[Staff of Artakha]].
