== History ==
The Caves were the upper part of the larger group of caves in the Southern Continent that the [[Av-Matoran]] used to inhabit.{{GregCitation|OGDi|post=6716|lines=4,11}}{{GregCitation|OGDi|page=315|post=12572|lines=11,21}}

When the [[Great Cataclysm]] caused Voya Nui to rocket upwards to the surface of [[Aqua Magna]], the caves were transported with the landmass. Later, when the [[Piraka]] arrived on the island of Voya Nui, they stationed {{p|Nektann|Robot}} guards in the caves to monitor the comings and goings of the [[Antidermis]]-enslaved [[Matoran]] population.{{OnlineCitation|VNOG|3}}

[[Axonn]] led the Matoran of Voya Nui and [[Mahri Nui]] into these caves to keep them safe from harm when the [[Toa Mahri]] destroyed [[the Cord]] and Voya Nui returned to the Southern Continent.{{BookCitation|BL8}}

When [[Teridax]] was killed in the [[Battle of Bara Magna]], the Nui Caves were severely damaged, and the Matoran evacuated to [[Spherus Magna]].
