The Ice Bat species was created by the [[Makuta]] using [[Virus]]es and [[Protodermis#Liquid Protodermis|Liquid Protodermis]] to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the [[Matoran Universe]].{{BookCitation|MGttU|63|entryname=The Makuta}}

Many Ice Bats made their homes on the tops of [[Knowledge Towers]] in [[Ko-Metru]]. Here, they were known to fly into observatories and to smash everything on their way out; they also made navigating Ko-Metru by air a hazard, leading most [[Airship]]s to instead use other routes.{{BookCitation|BEU|46|entryname=Ice Bat}}

During the {{p|Visorak|Rahi}} occupation of [[Metru Nui]] following the [[Great Cataclysm]], [[Rahaga]] [[Kualus]] summoned thousands of Ice Bats to fend off several [[Suukorak]] menacing him and [[Toa Hordika]] [[Nuju]].
