== History ==
The Gadunka species was created by the [[Makuta]] using [[Virus]]es and [[Protodermis#Liquid Protodermis|Liquid Protodermis]] to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the [[Matoran Universe]].{{BookCitation|MGttU|63|entryname=The Makuta}} Gadunka made their homes in the [[Silver Sea]]s, including the surroundings of [[the Pit]].{{GregCitation|OGD|page=313|post=12501|lines=6,17}}

When the [[Great Cataclysm]] shattered the Pit and allowed its occupants to travel into the [[Black Water]] of [[Aqua Magna]] above the prison, several specimens of Gadunka escaped into the sea.{{BookCitation|BL7}}

=== Enlarged Gadunka ===
When [[Nocturn]] placed the [[Kanohi]] [[Ignika]] on the seabed, a Gadunka scurried under the mask for shelter, unknowingly exposing himself to the Kanohi's energy. The energies caused the Gadunka to grow at a rapid rate until it reached a gigantic size.

Its instincts caused it to think the Ignika, which was then taken away by Nocturn, belonged to it. Upon seeing the [[Barraki]] possessing it, it attempted to attack the group, but was stopped and attacked by Toa Mahri Hewkii instead. Due to his sense of fair play, the [[Toa]] attempted to defeat the Gadunka through physical combat. He threw boulders at it and used his [[Aqua Warblade]] and [[Electrified Chains]] against it, but Gadunka countered every move. Hewkii ultimately failed and was about to be devoured by the Rahi when [[Hahli]] and [[Nuparu]] came to his rescue. Nuparu used his [[Aqua Blaster Blade]] and sent shockwaves through the water, which distracted the Rahi long enough for Hahli to summon an underwater tidal wave, washing the Gadunka away.

Later, the enlarged Gadunka reappeared, now having "befriended" the 300-Foot Mutant [[Venom Eel]] and the [[Ancient Sea Behemoth]]. The trio attacked the Toa Mahri as they were about to bring down [[the Cord]]. The latter two were defeated by the Toa. Meanwhile, Nuparu attempted to defeat Gadunka by opening a hole in the sea floor, causing the Rahi to drop into it. Gadunka, however, reappeared and took the Mask of Life from [[Matoro]], who was knocked unconscious during the battle. Angry that the Gadunka had injured Matoro and attempted to remove itself from him, the Ignika granted the creature the ability to restore anything to its original state. As a result, the Gadunka shrunk back down to his former size, and was later devoured by a [[Takea]].{{BookCitation|MGttU|55|entryname=Gadunka}}

== Abilities and Traits ==
Gadunka are a small species of Rahi, reaching maximum lengths of only an inch or so.{{BookCitation|BEU|34|entryname=Gadunka}} Despite their naturally small stature, their jaws and claws are extremely powerful. They are very territorial Rahi, known for attempting to claim small areas, such as a piece of rock or coral.

The enlarged Gadunka's personality was virtually unchanged, making it a destructive menace. Despite not understanding what the Mask of Life was, it considered the mask to belong to it and fought the Toa multiple times to try getting it back. The mask temporarily granted this Gadunka the ability to restore any organism to its original state. The Rahi only used this power once, on itself, shrinking it back down. It lost the power when the Toa reclaimed the mask.

The enlarged Gadunka used a [[Squid Launcher]] that it found on the seafloor. When it shrank back to its original size, the enlarged Gadunka was unable to use the Squid Launcher and discarded it.
